Legal Question in Family Law in California

Are my kids adopted?

I have not seen my kids in many years. My X wife took them out of state and then returned and got a restraining order against me and the order had the kids listed with a different last name. It had her present husbands last name as my childrens last name. How can I find out if they have been adopted? I pay child support and have no idea of where they are. I would like to visit them. What are the steps I need to take to establish visitation and to find out if they are still my legal children. The last I heard, she had told them I was dead.
