Legal Question in Family Law in California

I live in california, i recently gave birth to my son, throughout my pregnancy the father was not involved, the father took me to court to get visitation which he has, but he is now requesting that i change my sons last name to his. my son currently has my last name. can i be obligated by the court to do so?

No, there is no law that children must have the father's name. You can argue that it is in the best interest of your child to share your name, not the name of someone who did not participate in the pregnancy, or child raising.
