Legal Question in Family Law in California

marriage certificate - changing the date

We got married over the weekend, but did not arrive to California early enough to obtain the marriage certificate until the following Monday. Is there a way to change the date on the marriage certificate to match our ceremony date?? Or is there a way to petition to a judge or the County Clerks office to have it recorded prior to the date when the certificate was issued?

Sincerely,

Newly Married

Re: marriage certificate - changing the date

Your marriage ceremony was only ceremonial. The marriage did not legally take place until the minister signed the licence. I have never heard of any proceedure to change the date of the marriage. I would suggest that you celebrate your wedding aniversary on the date that you did the ceremony and not dwell on the licence snafu. Something goes wrong at every wedding. Not being legally married surely isn't the worst thing that could have happened. Congradulations!
