Legal Question in Family Law in California

I got married in China and my wife is now holding a green card in the US. We want to divorce in China, but she doesn't want to go back. What steps if any do I need to take in the US before approaching the Chinese Consulate here? Will they give a power of attorney to someone overseas to finalize the process? We have been married over five years and want joint custody for our daughter. Thank you for your time.

I'm wondering why you want or need a divorce in China. If you have both been living in California for six months or more, under California law you can do the divorce in California. Do you have reason to believe China will not recoginze U.S. divorces?
