mental illness and custody

If there is a history of mental instability of a parent can that be used to establish custody of a minor child and how do i get the records or evidence seen in court?

Many good parents have been treated for mental illnesses. If you feel that this issue needs to be investigated you can ask for a psycolgical evaluation. Be prepared to pay for it yourself even if the court leaves it open to order the other parent to pay part of it. If you think the children are abused or neglected due to mental illness you can also call Child Protective Services to see if they will investigate.
