Order to show cause vs. Motion

Hello, I was wondering - I family law

proceedings in California, I have seen

lawyers file Order to Show Cause

notices and Notice of Motion. They

forms look very similar, but what is the

difference?

An OSC requires personal service of the non-moving party and is used, for example, in custody hearings.
