Legal Question in Family Law in California

As part of my divorce settlement I was ordered to pay $2500 for my ex-wife's attorney fees at the rate of $150/mo until paid off. I've paid on time every month and the principal is almost paid off. In the judgment there is no mention of interest due on this amount.

My ex's lawyer has stated that I owe him interest in the amount of 10% per year as that is the standard rate for judgments.

My lawyer has stated to me that as long as I pay the amount as agreed I would not owe any interest. She also noted that payment of interest was never mentioned in the judgment.

Could you please tell em what I am legally obligated to do? Any proof that I could show to ex's lawyer is appreciated.

Thanks,

RS

Was a judgment entered or just a court order? Formally entered judgments accrue interest at the rate of 10% per annum. If it was an order, the lawyer cannot legally charge you interest. Before you pay off the balance be sure you get a written acknowledgement that the debt has been satisfied in full.
