Legal Question in Family Law in California

what is the best place to get married?

Hi,

I am planning to marry my boyfriend. He want to marry in Vegas because it is fast. My friends however advise me to marry him in CA because in case of divorce there would be Alimony/Spousal Support Factors.

As I am not an CA resident anyways, which state is better for my Alimony/Spousal Support Factors by State in case of divorce?

Also, I heard of annulment that if you divorce within a year, no records would be shown for that marriage. Does that mean my boyfriend can divorce me anytime within this year without any worries?

Just worried about it.

Re: what is the best place to get married?

Hands down, Las Vegas is the best place to get married. My recommendation is that you insist on a formal wedding at the Venetian Hotel, followed by a reasonably long and memorable honeymoon.

Skip the "fast" wedding. Do not get married in order to reap the so-called benefits of a divorce. If you think there is a possibility of a divorce, postpone the marriage and get to know him better. To the best of my knowledge, what if anything you would receive in a divorce depends on where you get divorced, not where you get married.

Have him take you to the Venetian for the weekend so you can check out the wedding facilities; make an appointment with their wedding planners (but resist the impulse to get hitched immediately). If he cannot or will not take you for a romantic weekend at the Venetian, including but not limited to a gondola ride and dinner at Emeril's, he is either a cad or he lacks the earning capacity to be your mate.
