If I purchase a post nuptial form online, what steps do I need to take to be sure it will hold up in a court of law?

You can never be so sure with non-lawyer approved ante-nup agreements (or even some lawyer written agreements).

Hire a competent lawyer to draft a real post nup. that conforms to California law.
