Legal Question in Family Law in California

Who receives attorney's fees?

I retained an attorney in 2006 and paid the retainer fee, as well as each statement that I've ever received. According to her staff, I do not have a current balance as there is substantial retainer remaining.

My question: If my attorney asks for attorney's fees from my child's father and assuming they are granted, who will receive the fees since I've already paid her? I've asked the bookeeping staff this same question, and they're all refraining from answering.

The attorney fees in excess of the amount that you owe your attorney are yours.
