Legal Question in Family Law in California

self representation

My ex and I are scheduled for an assessment for visitation modification. I represent myself. I have tried to talk to my ex and I have sent a letter to his attorney requesting that we meet to discuss the visitation to avoid the cost of an assessment. The attorney does not call me back and will not talk to me. They did nit even bother to show up in court for the JCC. Is this normal? I am the one asking for modification of visitation because of a violent act against my minor daughter by his live in girl friend. There is a police report. All I want from him is to agree that the girlfriend not be present while my daughter visits. Now he is asking for much more visitation than he had before. Does his attorney have to talk to me or can he ignore me as he has?

Re: self representation

The other attorney should call you as a matter of trying to resolve the case, but the court has ordered an evaluation that must be completed. The court has ordered it to be done. It is not uncommon for one side to retaliate against another side when they feel they have been wronged in a custody dispute. I would get an attorney if you have doubts about representing yourself.
