Legal Question in Family Law in California

I want to separate from my Alcoholic Husband

I have been married for almost 8yrs, in the last 4yrs my husband has been drinking heavily. He is at this time an alcoholic. What worries me is lately he's doing very dangerous and irresponsibley actions. We have a home together and I am worried about losing it if he gets a DUI. I want to know how I can protect myself from his actions. At this time I am thinking about a separation from him.

Re: I want to separate from my Alcoholic Husband

I think you should try to remain calm. Your community property could be liable for his negligent or reckless actions, but, other than that, you will not be responsible. I think you need to sit back and reflect and understand that it is not so much an issue of what liability you will incur for his actions as it is how much damage can his actions cause in your life? This is probably more the time for a marriage counselor than a lawyer.

Although I practice in Georgia, I am a member of the California Bar, so your question was referred to me.
