Legal Question in Family Law in California

My son had a child with his girlfriend, but she didn't even allow him to be involved in the child's birth. They later broke up, but he wants to be in his child's life, but she wont let him. But dosn't he have rights as the father and what does he need to do?

He needs to file a proceeding in court to establish paternity and set a custody and support schedule. The family law facilitator at your county superior court, or the Department of Child Support Services will assist. Just so you aren't caught off guard, though, once he establishes his paternal rights, he will also be on the hook for child support. Just so you and he know.
