Legal Question in Family Law in California

Spousal Support

How long must I be married in order to get spousal support? My husband and I have been married for almost 6 years, but for the last 3 years I have been unable to work due to medical reasons. We have one child together, and I will be asking for child support, but also wanted to know if I would be able to ask for spousal support. Thank you.

Re: Spousal Support

The length of the marriage is a factor considered by the court when determining the amount of and length of the payment spousal support. If the wife is disabled and unable to work the court will order spousal support for a longer period of time than if she is able to seek and obtain full time employment.
