Legal Question in Family Law in California

spousal support

I was married for 10 years in California, didn't work and am still unemployed. My, hopefully soon to be ex-husband was ordered by the court to pay me spousal support which he did for 7 months and then he lost his job in Nov 2008. Its now March 2009 and I still haven't gotten any support from him. Does he need to notify his lawyer when he has a new job and in turn does that lawyer notify mine when he has a job? Will he have to backpay me from Nov 2008 or will the 5 years he owes me start from Nov? Will it still be 40% of his new salary? If I get a job and he hasn't found one yet will I have to pay him spousal support? I had personal checks from him and 2 months direct deposit from his employer, do I need to file taxes since I didn't work? What can I do to get this spousal support from him? I live in California and he moved to Chicago, does that make a difference in getting the spousal support that he owes me? Thank you for your time.

Re: spousal support

He would need to pay the amount of the order and that includes back payments. But, if he lost his job he can try and modify the order to reduce support.
