Can the state collect child support even when the child is in custody and in the process of being adopted and my parental rights have been terminated?

Once your parental rights are terminated, you are no longer under a duty to pay child support. If there is a judgment for past child support, or arrearages, however, the state can collect the past due amounts.

Mr. Roach is correct. You must make sure, however, that the legal rights are actually terminated. Until the court says they are, the fact that you have filled out and filed all the papers does not make it effective.
