Legal Question in Family Law in California

My step-son has been diagnosed with major depression and schizophrenia. He is suicidal and I just found in his journal plans to harm both his father and to quote 'dice up his sisters while dad watches'. I would like to know if it's possible for me to obtain a restraining order against him from being around both myself and my two daughters. The step son is 14 years old, and his 10 year old sister both have different mothers. I am mother to our 2 youngest daughter, which whom i fear for. He has been in and out of institutions and nothing seems to be helping, and therefore i do not want him to have contact with the two youngest (my birth children) Is this possible?
