Legal Question in Family Law in California

Stipulation & Order...what is it?

I live in Oregon...my soon to be ex-wife lives in LA county, CA. We are getting a divorce. Since she filed first in CA, I am left to rely on her timeline essentially as to when things will be filed and ultimately completed. The most recent document filed with the court was a ''Stipulation & Order''. This is a pretty standard divorce. No significant assets or monies. No children. She did however ask for spousal support through the original petition. My question is: What is a stipulation & order filing and why would something like this need to be filed with the court? Currently, the status is ''Legal Separation (General Jurisdiction) - Status: Pending'' - I have tried calling the actual courthouse where everything has taken place thus far and getting through to them is very difficult. Please assist if possible. Thank you

Re: Stipulation & Order...what is it?

You must have signed the Stipulation and the Order should be the same language only instead of just having the signatures of you and your exwife the judge will also sign the order. Whoever filed the "Stipulation and Order" had a duty to send you a copy with the court stamp on it. Ask your wife to send you a copy of this document so that you can check it to make sure it is correct.
