Legal Question in Family Law in California

suicide

My father committed suicide. I am a twenty four year old single mother and a student. The public administrator says that if I don't pay for the creamtion of my father that they will do it and then the district attorney will come after me for the bill. Is this correct?

There is a code section that provides for children to support their parents. The amount of support is based on the need of the parent and the ability of the children to provide support. While it is possible that you could be ordered to pay a portion of the cremation costs. Since you are a single mom, it would seem unlikely, unless you have high income.
