Legal Question in Family Law in California

I was told that my ex husband didn't have to pay child support because his "income" is a VA benefit and that is couldn't be garnished. Is that true? Is he exempt because he served in the military?

VA benefits are generally exempt from garnishment. But that does not mean he does not have to pay child support or is otherwise exempt.
