Legal Question in Family Law in California

my x just inform me to that he wants the ring back he gave to me as a gift, it wasn't an engagement ring; just a ring that he loved me. Through out our short relationship he several times broke it off with me, this last time he told me he didn't want anything to do with me. Months later he texts me and says he has right to my ring or its value, can he take me to court for this?

He can take you to court for anything he wants. The question is whether he can win. In this case it sounds like he is pretty sure to lose.

I agree with Mr. McCormick. He can take you to court and waste your time, but I seriously doubt the court is going to order you to pay or give it back. It is a gift, and intervivos gifts are not revocable. If it was a gift causa mortis (a gift to you in anticipation of his immediate and impending death), it could be revocable, but you have not provided any facts that indicated that it was a gift causa mortis.

Tell him there are no takesy backsies.
