Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

fmla vs workers comp temporary disibity

Injured at work on 4-16-08. Put on Worker's Comp Temp Disiblity as of 7-1-08. Surgery on 9-4-08. Employer put me on FMLA leave effective 9-19-08. Why did they do this (live in CA) what happens if I am unable to prform work after 12wks right handed on computer all day. Help
