Laid off after returning on Maternity leave
hello,
I recently returned back from maternity leave. I returned to work on a monday and was let go on a thursday. Claiming they didn't need my position, however no one else was let go except me and i know for a fact my position is needed, or at least i was told by my superiors that they were anxiou for me to come back due to the amount of work. am i protected by any law?

Yes and no. The law generally protects you against retaliation or discrimination. This does 'look like' it is improper. However, if the company can show reasonable business justification in laying you off, that would be their defense. You may have a valid claim, you may not. You won't know whether you'll succeed in the claim until you have an attorney confront them with it. Feel free to contact me if serious about pursuing this.
