Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

If i was gone in maternity leave and came back to work after 8 weeks, how long do i have to stay with the company before I could quit and not get sued for medical expenses from my maternity. I read that if you quit your job while on maternity leave the company could sue you for medical expenses. Is this true?
