Legal Question in Medical Leave in California

Paid Pregnancy Leave?

I see that we are entitled to 12 weeks of unpaid maternity/pregnancy leave through the FMLA, but are we entitled to any paid time off? For some reason, I thought that employers were required to give 6 weeks paid time off. If we wanted more time, we could either take unpaid leave or use vacation or sick time. What is the law for paid time off with regard to pregnancy leave?

Re: Paid Pregnancy Leave?

The only legal requirement for any form of medical or family leave is that employers must allow you to exhaust your sick and vacation time. Other than than that, they don't have to pay you for time not worked, unless it is company policy to do so. You may be eligible for disabilty pay and some companies have insurance coverage for that. Check into it with your Human Resourse Director.
