Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

afraid of losing my house

My dad is in jail he now has a civil lawsuit against him. The house i live in is in his name. He never changed it to my name but he gave it me a long time ago. Is there anything i can do to protect my house against any lawsuit he has.

Get the title transferred to you by recorded deed, but be prepared to defend the transfer in a legal action that plaintiff could bring if they win a judgment against your dad and try to collect against the house.

You might consider writing a contract and having him execute a grant deed. You will need the assistance of an attorney to cover your bases.
