Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Banned from Night Club

I was an employee of a very popular Restaurant/Night Club in Hollywood, Ca. After being terminated I filed for unemployment with the State of California. I was granted unemployment and my former employer then appealed the State's decision. I eventually won the appeal. I also won an additional small amount of pay due to the fact that my last paycheck from mmy former employer bounced - twice! I have many friends still working at the Restaurant/Nightclub and last night my former boss (The owner) has decided to ban me from any of his businesses - all restaurants. I was informed by my friends that what he did is really illegal unless he has probable cause to ban me. I've been a PAYING customer, well-behaved, and have brought in some business to his restaurants. Now, because he as a grudge against me he has banned me for life from entering and enjoying the restaurant/nightclubs that he owns. Any advice as to what I can do?

Re: Banned from Night Club

The banning may be argued to be a form of slander, as when you went to the establishment and was refused entry, the action may implicitly have damaged your reputation with the bystanders or your associates who observed the restriction. Call me directly at (619) 222-3504.

Re: Banned from Night Club

If the restaurants and clubs are private property -- which they almost certainly are -- the owner has a right to ban you from them based on his disputes with you. He probably couldn't ban you based on your race, religion, etc., but banning you due to a personal grudge is legal. Property owners don't have to allow people access to their property, however petty their reasons for restricting access may be.
