Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

my boyfriend and i both signed a year lease for our apartment. he is moving out. doesn't he have to pay his half until the lease is up? If he doesn't do i have the right to sue him for the remaining balance due on the lease?

In the situation you described you and your BF are a partnership and each are separately as well as jointly liable for the lease payments. Your options are to negotiate a move-out with the landlord and possibly only be liable for rent until the unit is re-rented or to get a roommate or identify a subtenant to take over your lease. As for your BF's obligation to you, possibly his remaining share of the rent until there is another roommate or sublessee or until the LL let's you out of the lease.
