Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Car accident while not in possesion of registered owner

I sold my car, but failed to submit release of liability. The new owner was involved in an accident. The car was still registered to me, but was uninsured. I received notice of the accident. The new owner abandoned the car. I was notified that I was responsible for towing and storage required for the car registered to me. In addition the other driver's insurance billed me for damages. I settled with them but, I would like to know if there is any legal action I can take against the individual who purchsed and was driving this car.

You could try to sue the driver, but I am guessing he/she has no assets. You can go to small claims court if the damages are under $7,500. If the damages are over $7,500, you will need to go to Superior Court. Good luck.
