Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Civil case in question? filed Oct 21 2013. Two different attorney's had said they would represent and backed out because they couldn't find the right defendant. Plaintiff lives in MO. and the case is in CA L.A. I just found the right defendant and served 3-28-2015. Final status conference scheduled for 4-6-2015. Can the case be reset? By calling the court and asking for extension of three or four months. If not what are the next steps? Thank you Dan

You can certainly call and ask. If the court declines, however, you will have to go to the final status conference and argue your case for more time. If the final status conference means the trial is imminent, then perhaps you and the new defendant can ask for additional time -- which the new defendant will almost certainly want. You may have to do this by stipulation and order, or by way of a motion to continue the trial date.
