Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Civil suit

I am looking a lawyer to help me with a civil matter. I am being sued for something my son did 2 years ago. How do I go about finding a good lawyer in my area? I know no one who has any experiance with this? The attorney we hired for his criminal trial cost us alot and did nothing for him.Had him pleade guilty. We got him out of the Phone book.

How can I know that the attorney I hire will do all he can to help us?

Re: Civil suit

There are a lot of different kinds of civil suits. It would help if you could be a bit more specific about what the case is about.

Feel free to call and discuss.

The best way to find an attorney is through recommendations from friends and family. If you do not know anyone who has needed an attorney, you may want to call your county bar association.

Also, if you have insurance, you may want to report this to your homeowners or auto insurance. If this is covered, they will pay for an attorney to defend you.

Re: Civil suit

There are many ways to hopefully find a decent lawyer. Here are several:

1. Put a posting on lawguru.com and look at the responses.

2. Go to other websites that use a screening method for their attorney members.

3. Call your local county bar association and ask for a referral; many local bar associations operate referral services.

4. Ask friends/family.

Generally, the phone book is a bad idea.

We are civil litigators, and we would be pleased to review the lawsuit and any underlying documents at no charge and provide you with some advice about how to proceed. Email or mail the documents if you wish.

Good luck.

Re: Civil suit

Homeowners should carry homeowners insurance. If a claim has been made against your child, or you such insurance may apply if the act or supervision was careless and someone was injured.

Most insurance policies will pay the costs of defense and will appoint an attorney that they have confidence in.

If you have no insurance feel free to interview attorneys. Many will meet with you at no cost to discuss experience and fees. When you call you can inquire whether the first consultation is without cost.

You have made a good start by coming here. In reality, not all lawyers are created equal, and even the best attorneys cannot guarantee that you will win.

I do Civil Defense Cases. You may check out my website at best.law.pro and click on the civil defense link.

I usually only handle civil defense in Southern California up to Santa Barbara, and north to Bakersfield and Taft.

Good Luck
