A death of my neighbor's cat
My neighbor dropped a note in my mail box last night stated that ''a vehicle hit her cat on 1/20/03 from 5:00 to 7:00pm'' She asked me a confession and appology in written to him. I normally come home around 7:00 or pass 7:00pm. I did not aware that I bumped anything at that night.
My question is what should I do? I don't want to damage neighbor's relationship. I can say sorry for the loss of her cat, however I afraid if I said that my words might against me in the court that I killed her cat. Would people are being sued and pay for damage if they would hit animals on the street?

"I am sorry to hear about your cat. It was neither me nor my car which hit your cat."

It is possible that you were not aware of the cat. You should tell the neighbor that you were unaware of the cat, but if you did hit it, then you are sorry. No libilitiy for this.
