Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

My dog was taken from my house and dropped off at the local shelter by my grandfather. I have then since moved out and do not plan on going back. My dog is currently registered in my name. I went to the shelter and verified I was the owner of the dog and explained the situation. unfortunately the shelter insisted I pay 230$. I could not come up with the money and my dog has since been adopted out. What can I do to get my dog back.

Most likely, there is nothing you can do if the dog was adopted. You failed to prompty pay the $230. Thus, the dog was adopted. If the shelter can give you the name of who adopted the dog, you could try to buy it from them. Probably, for much more than $230.
