Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Driving Unisured

It seems like a lot of people drive uninsured so I am wondering if it is no big deal (in terms of the possible consequences) What could possibly happen if I had a valid license and got pulled over for a minor traffic offense?

What about if I was at fault in an accident without injury?

Re: Driving Unisured

The penalty for driving without insurance is a one-year suspension of your driver's license. I believe there is also a fine, though I don't know how much offhand.

If you cause an accident while uninsured, you will be personally liable for all resulting injuries and property damage and will have to pay your own legal bills if you end up in court. Also, if you are injured in an accident caused by another driver, you will not be able to recover damages for pain and suffering.

[This is how the law works in California; the answer would probably be different in most other states.]
