Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Does an Equine Liability Law exist in CA?

I have a horse club in Cailfornia and as I was doing research, I noticed that at least 47 states have some kind of Equine Liability Law on the books. It didn't look as if California was one of them. Do we have any such laws, and if so, how would they help me as the president of a club that runs playdays (barrel racing and the like) and has trailrides? Would I still need to have liability insurance?

My practice area involves many equine activity cases, including the representation of the Los Angeles Equestrian Center and many others. There is no specific statute in California like other states dealing exclusively with Equine Activities, but our general liability statutes and case law is extensive. You should carry liability insurance and have specific waivers signed by all those who participate in the various activities. I also own a breeding and training ranch.
