Friend refuses to pay for his half of hotel bill and gas money

Hello,

A (former) friend and I went to Las Vegas and spent 2 nights in a hotel. On the 3rd day he wanted to stay, but I had to leave early. We got in a dispute about this and he ended up staying with another friend who happened to be coming into las vegas.

Because I left early this person refused to pay his half of the hotel bill or gas money. I never had any agreement with him saying he would be required to pay this amount. Do I have any case?

PS We are from California and this trip was to Las Vegas, nevada.

In my opinion you are out of luck. If you can't even claim that you had a verbal agreement of splitting the expenses, and if you drove and rented the room in your name, you would probably be wasting your time to pursue the matter. (No evidence of agreement, and no documentary evidence that the ex-friend was even with you in Vegas.) Chalk it up to experience.

Hopefully, you had a good time otherwise, and you found out that this person is not a true friend. That is worth something. It has also cost your ex-friend something valuable--your friendship, while saving you untold cash in the future that you probably would have spent on the moocher. Forget it and move on.
