Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

international lawyers who speak English as a second language

How do international lawyers write legal documents properly if they do not speak English as their first language? Do they hire an editing service or just do the best they can with the language. I'm interested in providing a service for international lawyers and want to know if there is a need for legal editing.

I have no idea, but why do you not wrlite to the national bar association in the countries whose languages you speak, contact firms with international offices, call up local law shcools to see if they have any instructors visiting or who graduated from a foreign university. To get any work referred to you, you will have to have had legal writing experience yourself.

There are a variety of different ways that lawyers handle this. Often they find a bilingual attorney. Just as often they use a third party translation service.

The problem with the translation services is that the translator needs to not only know both languages, but have some specialized legal knowledge in both languages, as precision of language is often very important in law.
