Yes, there are special rules that apply in limited jurisdiction cases. You learn the litigation rules only after years of practice and experience. Litigation is difficult enough for practicing lawyers. You shouldn't navigate litigation by yourself. You will likely slip up. You should at least have a lawyer on the side.
