Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

Ex asking to pay back money

My ex bought a computer that she gave to me when we separated and also had paid for some auto mechanic work while we were together. Now she says I owe her for the work and she wants the computer back. Does she have any legal right or do I have any legal obligation to pay or give these back? There was never any written agreement to pay back anything.

Re: Ex asking to pay back money

The question is whether they were gifts or not. Based upon your recitation of the facts, they appear to be gifts made while you were a couple. If that is the case, then the law will not impose any obligation to repay her or return the property.

If there was an agreement (written, or oral, doesn't matter) to return the computer and/or repay her for the auto work, then you are liable to honor the agreement.
