Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I provide in home pet grooming services. I have a client who I groom his pets once a week for the past 4 months. He usually pays with cash or check at each appointment. This past month he asked if I would be willing to accept paymenton 15th of mo th (it was the first week of that month at that time. ) he said he would have automatic deposit set up from his bank to mine. On the 24 (1 week later than we agreed on) I recieved a text from a service called popmoney saying the clients name wants to send me $ and for me to click on the link to set up the payment info. I did this. Days go by and still no payment in my account

I send the client a text simply asking if he knows how long it will be til payment is made. (9am) if responds back cursing me out, yelling, and calling me every name in the book. He continues on to say I'm retarded and that he's canceling the payment and to go F*CK MYSELF. That there's nothing I can do about it. He also went on to text my mother and call her names and threatened her as well. My question is is there anything I can do legally to get my money from him? Small claims court? Any tips or advise would be greatly appreciated. I am a single mother just barely getting by so this hurts us greatly. (He owes $300.) Also I have everything in writing through text messages to prove there was an agreement if him owing me and the dollar amount as well. Also the threats and him saying that he canceled the payment. Please help. Rent is due and I was relying on this money to be able to pay it.not sure if I picked the right category I apologise if it's the wrong one for this type of problem
