Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

my son got in a fight when he was 14. after more than 1 year, i am being sued for medical expenses for an injury suffered by the kid who started the fight. this is going to small claims court in CA. no charges were ever pressed by the law/police. cop who investigated told me that my boy acted in self defense. what's my best defense in court?

His self defense claims and witnesses. Having to ask the question makes it clear you need legal help. If you don't know how to represent yourself effectively against an experienced attorney intending to get a judgment against you, then hire an attorney that does. You should get a certified copy of the police report, If it says your son acted in self defense the judge will be sympathetic. The worst thing you can do is not show up. So make sure you show up with a copy of the police report.
