Sue For Money Owed Without a Contract

Can I sue someone for money they owe me, $22,000.00 with just a canceled check and bank statments? It was a verbal that the money would be paid back. Person lives in Reading, PA

Yes. A verbal agreement can be a binding contract, though you will have the burden of proving what the agreement was and that the defendant breached it. You may have to sue in Pennsylvania, though I might see a way to sue in California if I knew what the agreement said.

Good luck.

Yes you can still sue, unless the statute of limitations has expired. When did you lend the money? When was he supposed to repay? Absent anything else, the law will imply a reasonable time for repayment. Also, depending on the circumstances of the loan, you may be able to sue the borrower in California.

Let me know.
