Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I was sued by hunt&henriques; in November 2015. I filed the cross complaint and now the trial is set for January 2016. I've been handling it myself so far. Is it too late for a attorney to substitute in for me at this stage??

Not at all, assuming you mean January 2018. Just complete the substitution of attorney, http://www.courts.ca.gov/documents/mc050.pdf, file it with the court, and serve it upon the plaintiff's attorney.

I agree it is not too late. If you are going to do it, you should do so quickly, because that is not much time to do discovery and trial prep.
