Legal Question in Civil Litigation in California

I am wondering if i can bring action against my boyfriend's ex-wife who is telling in couseling sessions and via text messages to the 2 sons they share, which my boyfriend has custody of that i'm a "drug user" & on drugs. This is absolutely false! Is there any legal action I can take for her spreading these untruths & trying to damage my character for no other reason than spite?

The comments to the two children is defamation, but if the counseling sessions are supposed to be undisclosed to anyone, perhaps not. But suing is a very slow process and does she have any assets she is worried about losing?
