Legal Question in Health Care Law in California

Is it legal for my employer to require a termination of health insurance before offering me their plan.

I am covered by a union retirement plan, and I want to enroll in their plan but they say I have to have a certificate of termination or cancel my policy. It seems to me that this illegal and I should be able to be covered by 2 policies. Coordination of benefits provision?

Ask your employer why he insists upon the termination of your health plan. Does the new health plan require it? If the employer's answer makes no sense re-post your question with that additional information.
