Your husband must be a sponsor, and he must have evidence of his filing federal tax returns - at very least for the most recent year (2009). This requirement applies whether you have a joint sponsor or not.

If his income is below federal poverty guidelines, he may use a joint sponsor or his other assets, which can be savings, bonds, etc.

For a spouse, the value of other assets used to supplement low income is generally 3 times of what is required under federal poverty guidelines for the current year. For the family (household size of 3) it is $22,887 multiplied by 3.

Even if you have $70,000 or $80,000 in your bank account, the USCIS will require tax returns or explianation why was not filed, and can still request a joint sponsor.
