Direct marketing

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am a F-1 Visa Student in U.S. and was recently approach by some direct marketing representatives. I would like to know am i legal to work with direct marketing company as representative under commission pay basis?

Thanks for your posting. The INS rules state that under a F-1 Visa a student can work up to 20 hours per week on campus, as long as in good academic standing. However, after 9 months in good academic standing if the student can prove economic hardship in his/her country of origin, by

furnishing information (for example devaluation of currency in Turkey's case) the student can request work authorization from INS for off-campus

employment not to exceed 20 hours per week. If the student is within 90 days of graduating

he/she may request full-time work authorization (practical training) for up to one year.

In your case, you did not state your current status or whether or not the work would be at all on campus, but you may be able to work under these guidelines.
