Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

Engaged to an american

I am engaged to an American citizen and after our marriage would like to apply for american citizenship. I was wondering how that whole process goes after I filled in the I 130 form. Whats next and how long does it take before I can legally work?

You need to file for spousal petition along with adjustment of status and work authorization. It takes about 90 days to get work authorization after filing all required documents.

You'll need to apply for an adjustment of status if you're in the U.S., assuming you've arrived on a valid visa and meet the rest of the mandated requirements. It's 3 months to get a temporary work permit after you file for adjustment.

This is to become a permanent resident; 3 years after which you can apply for US citizenship.
