Legal Question in Immigration Law in California

who can file the G-639, Freedom of Information Form? My half sister filed a petition for me, back in 2001. Can i fill out the G-639 form my self or must it be filled out by my sister since she is the U.S. citizen? My mom says she recalls a response in regrads of the petition but it has been misplaced and no one remembers what it read. I would like to know what it said so that my husband can go ahead and file for me.

Would anything bad happen if I file the form G-639?

You can file a G-639 on your own behalf. Nothing bad should happen you are just requesting that the goverment provide you a copy of the information they have on you from USCIS, make sure to specify what dates you are looking for. The notice your recieved was likely an approval notice with the priorty date. Was your case under 245(i)?? Did she file before April 30, 2001?
