Legal Question in Insurance Law in California

Bought into Universal Policy for me & my spouse - agent then calls after physica

Took time out to meet with a insurance agent from a large, respectable, company. Spent 2 hours going over our options. The agent showed us five different plans. Agent pushed to get us to decide that evening. My wife and I finally decided on a Universal Policy that covered us both. The Agent, my wife and myself signed 4 or 5 different documents including one that agreed on the price for both my wife and myself. He then said that if we wanted to lock in on this price, we would have to take a physical exam the next day. We both took work off....a medical examiner came to our house, took our blood, urine samples, etc. and we thought we were all set. The next day, the agent called and asked for $80/mo. in order to have my wife on the plan. Being that we signed all this paperwork and that my wife had samples taken, shouldn't this company have to commit to the original price agreed upon for both my wife and me? That is how they sold it to us and I have paperwork to prove it. Do we have any chance of fighting this issue??

Yes, but it may not be easy. Make sure the copies of the 4 or 5 documents you have specifies the premiums and correct information for both of you. If it does, write the agent a letter demanding a written reply of why he subsequently unilaterally increased the premium 80/mo. Did you give him a initial premium check, and if so, did you get the premium deposit receipt? What does it say?

If this is too complicated, I suggest you contact a lawyer. Since this is really part of your estate planning, doing so may be thing you really need so someone objective can advise you. Wasn't that the real reason for reviewing all of the agent's five suggested programs?

Or if that is also too much, change agents after cancelling everything. If you have this much trouble now, in the beginning, you probably will have a great deal more later.
